DA-Group: electronics, radio-frequency products and lifecycle support
The Finnish electronics group combines spacecraft components, defence products and contract manufacturing, with a portfolio reshaped by its 2024 naval-technology sale.
DA-Group sits inside the electronics supply chain connecting Finnish engineering with spacecraft, industrial equipment and defence systems. Its commercial importance lies in combining design, testing, production and support: customers can buy a specialist component, commission development or outsource the delivery of a finished electronic product. That makes the company relevant to businesses looking for an engineering partner as well as to organisations comparing suppliers of its own products.
The name also needs a precise corporate boundary. DA-Group is the trading identity associated with DA-Design Oy, rather than a shorthand for every business that has previously collaborated with it. Its current portfolio includes space and defence electronics, but a significant naval technology business moved to Forcit under a transaction announced in March 2024. A useful supplier assessment starts with the capabilities retained after that change.
Ownership and the industrial base
The corporate history dates DA-Design's establishment in Forssa to 1995. It identifies Sami Kotiniemi and Kari Vainio as founding members who continue as owners and managers, and describes a group employing more than 140 professionals. That workforce figure has no measurement date. Headquarters and manufacturing are in Forssa, with additional Finnish offices supporting the wider business; public annual revenue is not established by this disclosure.
The same history explains several capabilities through acquisitions: YLINEN Electronics added space-related RF expertise in 2007, Surma extended naval engineering in 2018, and Creowave Filters brought specialist filtering in 2019. These are useful origins for understanding the portfolio, without implying that each historical business remains an independently contracting company today. The public pages identify entrepreneurial ownership, but provide neither a complete current cap table nor percentages that would justify assigning majority control to an individual.
For a customer, this combination of businesses creates a particular sourcing proposition. Electronic design can be considered alongside mechanical packaging, component assembly and qualification work. The advantage is organisational continuity between those stages. Its value still depends on the actual statement of work: an engineering engagement and a repeat manufacturing contract allocate responsibility differently.
What changed in the Forcit transaction
The 20 March 2024 announcement described a signed agreement for DA-Group's naval mine technology business, including personnel competence, assets and intellectual property. DA-Group presented the transaction as a way to concentrate on electronic warfare, space technology and industrial products. Its subsequent corporate history records the business as sold.
This matters when reading older collaboration announcements. They can accurately describe the participants at the time while giving an outdated impression of who now owns a product line. Forcit did not acquire the whole DA-Group in the cited transaction. Equally, the continued appearance of naval engineering in DA-Group's catalogue does not reverse the transferred business perimeter.
A prospective partner should therefore identify the legal supplier and the owner of the specific design before comparing historic references. This is especially relevant where a programme combines electronics with a larger platform: the former subcontractor relationship may survive even when the customer-facing product business has changed hands.
Product families and the role of engineering services
DA-Group's defence catalogue groups ship engineering and software, electronic-system testing, navigation-related products and space intelligence. Named families include SURMA engineering tools, RAHKO ship systems, DARAD testing equipment and iSNS navigation products. Creowave Filters supplies customised RF filtering within this broader offering. These are different purchasing categories, not interchangeable versions of one system.
An engineering tool usually enters a customer's design process; a test product enters its maintenance or qualification environment; a component becomes part of equipment built by somebody else. DA-Group can consequently compete with a specialist laboratory in one procurement and collaborate with a platform manufacturer in another. The distinction explains why a broad company comparison with Terma is most useful at the level of the specific work package.
The space portfolio makes that subsystem position explicit. DA-Group describes work for satellite and instrument manufacturers, including RF equipment, calibration-related development and flight or ground applications. For commercial analysis, the recurring asset is a qualified engineering and production relationship. Supplying an instrument component does not make the company the operator of the satellite or the seller of its observation data.
Weather programmes provide concrete references
On 10 April 2026, DA-Group announced an agreement with AAC Omnisys for EPS-Sterna. Its role is to supply RF solutions, working with its Creowave Filters unit, for microwave radiometers. The announcement places AAC Omnisys at the instrument level and OHB Sweden at the spacecraft prime level. No DA-Group contract value is disclosed.
That hierarchy gives a potential supplier more information than a generic association with a European space programme. It identifies which company integrates the instrument and where the RF package enters the production chain. It also suggests the appropriate commercial questions: qualification status, ordering cadence, design changes and support obligations over repeated spacecraft builds.
There is a separate flight reference. DA-Group's MetOp-SG A1 account identifies its receiver contribution to the microwave sounder on the satellite launched in August 2025. The company names VTT Millilab in environmental characterisation and describes the wider Airbus, ESA and EUMETSAT programme context. This is evidence of a delivered component role, rather than merely an ambition to enter space.
The two programmes should be read together without merging their economics. The earlier mission supports the credibility of the technical relationship; the newer supply agreement establishes another commercial engagement. Neither public page provides enough information to calculate the space business's revenue, production margin or share of the group's order book.
Recent development without overstating adoption
DA-Group launched DAREYE on 15 June 2026, presenting it as a ground-based product for analysing satellite radar observations. The announcement says it was designed and manufactured in Finland and identifies a patent application. It does not name a purchasing customer or disclose an order value. The documented milestone is the product launch.
The commercial relevance is that DA-Group is packaging RF and space knowledge into its own offering, alongside the component supply business. Those routes have different demands: a branded product needs sales channels, deployment support and continuing software or data support, while a component relationship is organised around the integrator's programme. Public customer references would clarify how far the new product has moved along that route.
A different development is the company's March 2026 entry into CERN's White Rabbit collaboration. The announcement concerns participation in an open timing-technology community, including technical support and development input. It is relevant to engineering capability and standards familiarity. It is not a public customer award or an acquisition of the underlying open technology.
Civil customers show how the delivery model works
The Hublet reference describes DA-Group as a product-development, manufacturing and logistics partner for shared-tablet systems. It explains that finished docking stations can leave the Forssa factory for Hublet's customers. This gives a concrete example of an outsourced product-delivery relationship extending beyond circuit-board assembly.
DA-Group also names Škoda Transtech and VR FleetCare in passenger-information and retrofit references. Those pages describe displays, interfaces and associated onboard electronics. Their historical project schedules should not be treated as a current delivery forecast. The useful enduring evidence is the named integrator relationship and the mix of new-build and modernisation work.
These civil references broaden the business picture without implying that industrial demand protects every defence programme from disruption. They show experience dealing with customers that need equipment maintained and replaced over long operating lives. The relationship between design ownership, component availability and replacement planning is also central to BDI's semiconductor supply-chain analysis.
DA-Group's quality page identifies manufacturing assurance and testing arrangements, including Eleforss as the accredited laboratory subsidiary. The relevant assessment is the scope applying to the purchased service and contracting entity. Together, the portfolio, weather-satellite references and civil manufacturing cases position DA-Group as a specialist electronics partner with several routes to customers, while the undisclosed turnover and product-level order book remain limits on financial comparison.

Commercial roles and product claims are attributed to DA-Group; no current annual turnover or complete ownership table was established. The corporate workforce figure is undated. Older rail references retain obsolete future opening dates, which are not repeated as current schedules. Naval technology sale is distinguished from acquisition of the group.
