Our editorial method

Make the evidence visible.

Useful business intelligence explains both what a source establishes and what it leaves unanswered.

Start with the original record

For buying decisions, we prioritise official notices, programme documents, agency announcements and contract records. Specialist publications and think tanks provide context and reporting leads. A company release is evidence of what that company has said; it is not automatic independent confirmation.

Keep procurement stages separate

A policy ambition, funding allocation, development call, tender, award announcement and delivery are different records. We label the stage supported by the source. Values retain their original currency and basis: a framework ceiling, planned budget and committed contract value are not interchangeable. We do not infer undisclosed suppliers or contract terms.

Write for a business decision

Articles explain why a development may matter to product, sales and market teams. The business implication is BDI analysis unless attributed otherwise. A guide to a programme is not confirmation of a reader’s eligibility. The current official documents govern any application or bid.

Be precise about access and dates

Each article includes source links and an evidence note. Public web pages change, and a deadline that has passed remains a historical deadline. Restricted retrieval, uncertain dates and missing primary evidence are recorded. We do not bypass paywalls or reproduce subscription reporting as if it were our own.

Use technology with editorial responsibility

Research and drafting can be assisted by software and AI. These tools do not create privileged access or substitute for source checking. Articles published under BDI Editorial use an organisational byline; they are not attributed to an invented reporter or to an expert who did not write them.

Expert perspectives are not endorsements

Our expert directory identifies people whose public work is relevant. It does not describe a BDI advisory board or client network. Affiliations and public account links are reviewed, and unsupported identities or stale records are excluded from the active directory.

Cover companies independently

Company profiles explain products, documented customer relationships and dated milestones. We distinguish supplier claims from buyer confirmation. Inclusion does not imply endorsement or a relationship with BDI.

Correct the record

If a title, statement, source or affiliation needs correction, contact the editorial team with the page and supporting evidence. Substantive corrections should identify what changed and when. Older research retained in the archive keeps its historical context; a new design is not a new factual endorsement of that material.
