Sensofusion is a Finnish counter-drone technology company built around the Airfence product family. It combines radio-frequency sensing, software and associated equipment, while a 2026 acquisition has added aircraft manufacturing to the business. The result is a company with an established product identity and a broader development agenda that now includes airborne and space-related projects.
For a business assessing Sensofusion, the central distinction is between that existing detection franchise and the newer capabilities being developed around it. A product catalogue, a government evaluation, a commercial supply relationship and a future satellite mission each establish different things. The company's public record is useful precisely because those stages can be separated.
Identity, ownership and the expanding group
Sensofusion identifies its headquarters in Vantaa, within Finland's capital region. Tuomas Rasila is its founder and chief executive. Lifeline Ventures lists the company in its portfolio, identifying a 2024 Series B investment. That establishes an investor relationship, without revealing the fund's percentage ownership or a complete current cap table.
The 26 August 2026 board announcement names Lifeline co-founder Timo Ahopelto as chair, with Kjell Forsén and Tiina Laisi-Puheloinen joining the board. Rasila remains a director. The release connects the governance changes with consideration of a stock-market listing; it does not announce a completed listing.
This matters to commercial counterparties because governance and ownership are separate from product capability. A more formal board may support a larger organisation, but it does not by itself establish a change of control, a public reporting obligation or a new customer contract. The appropriate description at the review date remains a privately held Finnish growth company.
Financial scale has become more visible
The 3 September 2026 interim release reports €35.1 million of 2025 revenue in its comparative table. It explicitly identifies the annual comparisons as unaudited IFRS consolidated figures. Group personnel reached 111 at 30 June 2026. Neither number is a measure of the original Finnish operating company alone or an annual average workforce.
These disclosures are more useful than revenue estimates derived from recruitment, funding or general market growth. They also establish a basis that future reports can refine. A comparison with earlier domestic-company accounts needs to reconcile both the accounting standard and the businesses consolidated, particularly after an acquisition.
For suppliers, the revenue record provides evidence of commercial activity beyond experimentation. It does not identify how sales divide between Airfence hardware, software, services and newer projects. That missing breakdown limits attempts to estimate the recurring business or to assign a financial contribution to an individual product launch.
Airfence is a family, with several buying categories
The current Airfence product directory distinguishes Airfence 7 from the portable Airfence Mini. Both sit within the company's detection offering for military and law-enforcement users. Product choice therefore begins with the customer's deployment and support requirements, rather than with a single undifferentiated anti-drone system.
The extensions catalogue adds the KELA antenna family, optical sensing, radar integration and a satellite-observation extension. These establish the breadth of the marketed architecture. They should not be read as proof that every combination has been accepted by a named customer.
Commercially, an extensible product creates several relationships: the manufacturer supplies its own equipment and software, additional sensor vendors may contribute components, and an integrator may take responsibility for the complete customer system. A buyer needs clarity about which organisation maintains the interface when one element changes. This is also the practical issue behind BDI's SAPIENT supplier-interface analysis, without implying that Sensofusion's catalogue establishes a particular certification under that standard.
The closest useful company comparisons are therefore made at product and integration level. DroneShield provides another example of a counter-drone business combining equipment and software. Revenue scale, catalogue breadth and customer support model can be compared; performance equivalence requires evidence for the particular customer requirement.
Historical government evaluation is valuable but bounded
The FAA's 2016 detection-programme report names Sensofusion alongside other vendors in an evaluation at Denver International Airport. That is a direct public-agency reference to participation in a real evaluation environment. It is more specific than a customer logo or an unattributed statement that a government uses the technology.
It remains a historical research reference. The record does not establish a current airport-wide deployment contract, continuing procurement status or approval of the company's later product generations. Its relevance is to the company's experience of institutional evaluation and the practical demands such programmes place on suppliers.
For commercial planning, this distinction helps avoid two errors. Dismissing a research programme overlooks a real customer interaction; turning it into a permanent purchasing relationship overstates the evidence. Later orders, support arrangements or buyer publications would be needed to connect that early programme to the present installed base.
Bittium provides a named integration counterpart
On 9 March 2026, Bittium announced cooperation with Sensofusion focused on interoperability between communications equipment and counter-drone products. Bittium reported that joint testing had taken place and that development would continue. The release identifies an engineering relationship rather than a disclosed purchase of Sensofusion's entire product line.
This is commercially significant because equipment that works in isolation can create integration burdens when combined with other systems. A named counterpart can help resolve responsibility for compatibility work and ongoing product changes. The public release does not provide enough detail to convert its reported test outcome into a universal compatibility claim.
It also illustrates a route to market that differs from direct sales. Sensofusion can retain its customer-facing product while working with another supplier whose equipment is already part of the customer's environment. The value of that relationship depends on what reaches supported customer configurations, not simply on the publication of the partnership.
Atol adds an aircraft manufacturing business
Sensofusion announced the completed acquisition of Atol Aviation on 31 March 2026. The release identifies Atol as Scandinavian Seaplanes Oy, operating from Halli in Jämsä, and says the transaction adds aircraft engineering and manufacturing capability. The purchase price was not disclosed.
This is a change in corporate scope, not simply a distribution agreement. It brings a different industrial discipline into a business previously best known for sensing and counter-drone equipment. Aircraft production involves its own supply relationships, documentation, support organisation and customer expectations.
For a partner, that can create an opportunity to sell a subsystem within a more integrated offering. It also changes the comparison with a company that supplies only sensors: the larger product may carry different delivery cycles and responsibilities. Public acquisition evidence establishes the new capability perimeter, while future financial reporting is needed to show its contribution.
Aerospace projects remain separate milestones
The 3 June 2026 aerospace announcement introduced the Sensofusion Aerospace identity and described Swift aircraft development alongside Fennec-1 and Fennec-2 satellite projects. It set autumn 2027 as the target for the first satellite launch. That is a future company schedule, not evidence of an operating constellation.
The aircraft and satellite projects address different purchasing relationships. An aircraft offering requires platform support; a satellite programme must establish launch, spacecraft and eventual service arrangements. Their association with the same sensing business may be strategically coherent, but it does not make them equally mature or give them a shared customer order book.
The latest interim statement also dates manufacturing expansion: Canadian production had begun in late 2025, while a UK facility was planned before the end of 2026. These are capacity and location milestones, not published production volumes. Sensofusion's evolving commercial position is best assessed through the combination of disclosed revenue, named integration work and successive product deliveries, keeping the newer aerospace programmes visible as development activity.
