Blueye Robotics supplies compact underwater remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, to professional users who need to inspect, document or research what lies below the surface. The Norwegian company's public customer record spans maritime agencies, universities and industrial inspection. Its commercial offer now includes more than the vehicle: payload equipment, support and a cloud service connect the inspection to the records that customers need afterwards.
The company's May 2026 launch of X7, X3 Ultra and Blueye Cloud marks that broader direction. New hardware extends the vehicle range, while the software organises data across equipment, operators and projects. For a business reader, this makes Blueye both an underwater equipment supplier and a company developing the workflow around its installed products.
Identity, ownership and verified company figures
Blueye Robotics AS is registered in Norway under organisation number 915666450, with its business address in Trondheim. The public register identifies a private limited company and does not mark it as part of a corporate group. It does not provide a current controlling shareholder or ownership percentage. The company's history traces its origins to the marine robotics research environment at NTNU's Centre for Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems. Blueye says it was founded in 2015 and originally considered the consumer market before moving toward professional customers. Its history names Erik Dyrkoren, Martin Ludvigsen, Christine Spiten and Erik Haugane as founders, with Haugane funding the initial company. The current vehicle range
Blueye's May 2026 announcement introduces the X7 as a new platform and the X3 Ultra as an updated compact ROV. The company also retains X1 in its current range for simpler inspection work. The differences involve the platform, computing, imaging and capacity to accommodate external equipment. The commercial significance of several models is that Blueye can address different inspection requirements without relying on a single standard package. A user primarily collecting visual records may need a different configuration from one requiring additional positioning or measurement equipment. The complete offer therefore depends on the vehicle and the attached equipment, rather than the model name alone.
Blueye's launch material lists compatible products from specialist suppliers, including sonar, positioning and handling equipment. That shows a role for external vendors around the core ROV. It does not make every accessory a Blueye-developed product or establish that all accessories are included in a customer's purchase.

A named export award with a local partner
On 19 August 2025, Blueye announced that it and RVI Tools had won a contract to supply ROVs to the Netherlands Royal Navy after a competitive tender. The release identifies both the customer and the local commercial partner. It also describes training and access to online support as part of the delivery relationship. It does not publish the contract value or the number of units. The award announcement supplies those facts.
For understanding Blueye's route to market, the partner is as significant as the named customer. A local business can participate in the customer relationship and support arrangements while Blueye provides the underlying technology. The announcement is evidence of that joint route, without demonstrating that every export market uses the same structure.
The source is Blueye's own release, including a statement from RVI Tools. It supports an attributed award account, rather than independent inspection of the buyer's procurement file. The reported award also predates the May 2026 product launch, so it should not automatically be described as an X7 purchase.
Customer use extends beyond the award announcement
Blueye's October 2024 interview with an engineer aboard the Norwegian Coast Guard vessel KV Bjørnøya describes use of an X3 for practical inspection work, including checking damage to the ship itself. A December 2025 Norwegian Customs case adds a different institutional user. It describes the agency introducing Blueye equipment and conducting staff training. Its commercial significance is the decision to develop internal inspection capability alongside continued cooperation with other organisations. These accounts show why equipment adoption is partly an organisational matter. The user needs people able to operate the system, review the records and maintain the equipment. A purchase is one event; making the product useful across the customer's work is a continuing relationship.
Research and education provide another customer context
In a June 2021 case, Blueye interviewed staff from UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, about using its ROVs in teaching and marine research. The account describes students viewing underwater footage and researchers using the equipment to observe marine environments. Its date matters: this is evidence of an established educational use, not a newly announced 2026 procurement. The UiT case records the participants and application.
A university's requirements can differ from those of a maritime agency. Sharing observations with students, incorporating external sensors and retaining data for research create their own software and support needs. The same underlying vehicle category can therefore support several markets while the commercial package and user expectations vary.
Blueye Cloud moves the offer toward data management
Blueye announced its cloud service in open beta on 19 May 2026. The product description includes fleet and equipment records, replay of inspection data, project organisation and sharing. It also describes optional AI-assisted transcription and draft reporting. These are vendor-described software functions, rather than independently validated inspection conclusions. The business change is the connection between collecting data and delivering a useful record to another person. A customer may operate several vehicles, change batteries and equipment, and produce many separate inspection files. Organising those records can become part of the value proposition after the hardware has been purchased.
The launch distinguishes free and professional plans, showing a service structure alongside equipment sales. It also identifies functions still on the roadmap. An announced beta and future features should remain distinct when comparing the available product with the company's intended direction.

Blueye's July 2025 support overview describes an in-house repair workshop in Trondheim, a help centre, software guidance and an assessment-and-quotation process for repairs. The existence of that support structure is relevant to professional customers whose work depends on equipment availability.
