Anduril: Lattice software and autonomous systems
Anduril combines autonomous hardware with Lattice software. Its commercial role spans complete systems, integration and an emerging supplier ecosystem.
Anduril combines autonomous hardware, sensors and Lattice software in a business that can occupy several positions in a defense programme. It can supply an integrated system, provide the software connecting products from different manufacturers, or sell components through an acquired specialist business. Recent customer announcements make those distinctions concrete: a Dutch protective-system contract, an Army data-platform selection and a NATO evaluation each involve a different delivery responsibility.
The company is therefore useful to follow at product and programme level. Its software business can develop through a customer adopting a common data environment, while its hardware operations require manufacturing, integration and support. The same corporate name connects those activities, but the customer decision supporting one does not automatically describe the others.
Lattice connects the portfolio
Anduril's public portfolio identifies Lattice command-and-control software, mission autonomy, networking, developer tools and a partner programme alongside physical product families. The structure points to a business selling both equipment and the environment in which equipment is connected. For another manufacturer, the relevant relationship may concern the common software layer even when Anduril is not supplying every physical component.
The Lattice Mission Autonomy description presents the software as working across platforms and sensors from different providers. At a commercial level, this makes integration part of the product proposition. The software supplier must address how information moves between systems and how an application continues to work as the surrounding equipment changes.
That creates a different comparison from a stand-alone aircraft purchase. A hardware company may compete with an Anduril product on one requirement while seeking a connection to Lattice on another. A specialist software developer may be concerned with the part of a workflow its application retains inside the broader environment. The public materials identify these product categories without disclosing universal licensing or support terms.
The comparison with Shield AI's aircraft and software portfolio is consequently most useful when tied to a deliverable. Both companies work in autonomy, but an aircraft, a development environment and a customer data platform meet different commercial needs.
The Netherlands example puts Anduril in the system-provider role
On 7 May 2026, Anduril reported a Dutch Ministry of Defence contract for an integrated counter-UAS solution built around Lattice. The company described continuing hardware integration and said an initial capability had been established within a month of signature. The announcement did not disclose a contract price.
The business relationship described here is broader than the sale of one sensor. It places the connections between products within the customer's contracted solution. That is significant for companies supplying sensing, communications or related software: their product may be evaluated as part of a wider system whose principal supplier is responsible for making the parts work together.
This type of relationship also gives integration work a continuing commercial role. Customer equipment and applications can change over time, leaving an ongoing need to maintain the connections. The Dutch announcement supports the existence of the reported system contract and initial implementation; the longer-term division of support work would depend on that customer's agreement.
Army and NATO records concern the data layer
Anduril's 22 June 2026 Army announcement described selection to lead the common data baseline for Next Generation Command and Control. The company said this followed ten months of evaluation with the 4th Infantry Division and presented Lattice as the layer connecting applications, data and systems.
For an industrial reader, the important feature is the scope of the selection. A common data environment can affect several applications without implying that their developers become part of the same company. It can influence where integration effort is spent and which interfaces become important to participating suppliers. The announcement identifies that software role without providing a disclosed price or a breakdown of work among partners.
The 7 July 2026 NATO release describes a more bounded institutional step. Anduril said the NATO Communications and Information Agency selected Lattice for the Enhanced Air Command and Control Data Platform initiative, starting with a nine-month evaluation. The work was to involve Anduril UK and its European team inside NATO's environment.
A defined evaluation gives the customer a way to assess an integration before deciding on its subsequent scope. It is meaningful market evidence because an institution has selected a supplier for a specific exercise. It also leaves a clear next event to follow: the customer's decision after the evaluation period. Together, the three examples show why a single headline category such as defense software is insufficient. The Dutch customer bought a system relationship; the Army announcement concerned a common data baseline; NATO began a specified evaluation. Their implications for hardware suppliers, application developers and support providers differ.
An acquisition adds an external component business
The 20 October 2025 purchase of American Infrared Solutions adds another dimension. Anduril said AIRS, a producer of cooled infrared cameras and components, had supplied it for several years. The acquisition brought that capability into the group while retaining AIRS's New Hampshire facilities and existing customers. Transaction terms were undisclosed.
The company explicitly described becoming a merchant supplier of those cameras and components to defense, space and commercial customers. That matters because ownership of a component producer can serve two purposes: supplying Anduril's own systems and continuing to sell to other manufacturers. The announcement supports both intended roles rather than a simple assumption that every acquired capability becomes exclusively internal.
For a business tracking competition, AIRS consequently belongs on a different part of the company map from Lattice. One concerns physical components; the other concerns software and integration. Acquiring a specialist can deepen internal supply while also bringing outside customer relationships that have their own product requirements and support expectations.
Long Beach connects growth to physical execution
Anduril's 22 January 2026 Long Beach announcement described a planned campus across Long Beach and Lakewood, comprising approximately 1.18 million square feet in six buildings. The published target was an initial opening in mid-2027, with about 5,500 direct jobs at full capacity. Headquarters were to remain in Costa Mesa.
Those are future industrial milestones. The project gives a location and timetable to an expansion strategy, while actual occupancy and completed production facilities will determine the capacity available for customer work. The connection to the wider portfolio is straightforward. Hardware development, assembly and system integration need physical resources; maintaining a data platform creates a different mix of engineering and support work. A broad campus plan cannot allocate future activity between those functions, but it helps explain why Anduril's growth story includes both software adoption and substantial industrial development.
The most informative next disclosures would connect these strands to their customers: the outcome of NATO's evaluation, a defined expansion of software scope, AIRS product relationships after acquisition, or completed Long Beach construction stages. Public material already establishes a business spanning several layers of defense supply. Its full ownership structure, product-level revenue and unpublished customer terms remain outside that record.
